Riley thorn and the dead guy next door summary

Riley Thorn and the Dead Guy Next Door, written by Lucy Score, is part of the Riley Thorn series.[1] For the series’ reading order, see How to read the Riley Thorn books in order.

Riley Thorn and the Dead Guy Next Door opens with a flash-forward to Riley Thorn in a high-speed chase on the Fourth of July, pursued by armed men while communicating with her partner, Nick Santiago.[2] The narrative then shifts back in time to introduce Riley, a 34-year-old proofreader who receives psychic messages from the living and the dead. At a coffee shop, she is compelled by a dream to warn a barista, Maris, to get her lymph nodes checked, an act that unsettles her quest for a normal life.[3]

At her demoralizing job, Riley learns that her ex-husband, news anchor Griffin Gentry, is engaged to the woman he cheated with, using the ring Riley had to return.[4] That evening, a handsome stranger named Nick comes to her door under the pretense of collecting money for candy, sparking a psychic vision of a sexual encounter between them.[5] Nick is revealed to be a private investigator who, along with his team, namely cousin Brian and Brian’s wife Josie, is trying t

This book follows Riley Thorn, a recent divorcee who is unfortunately still financially tied to her ex-husband and living in a complex with a wacky group of neighbours/roommates. Another thing, Riley is a clairvoyant (although she does not like to refer to herself as such) and she often has hallucinations that freakishly come true.

When one of her neighbours gets murdered, and a sexy private investigator gets thrown in the mix, Riley is eager to get to the bottom of the murder– maybe even putting her psychic abilities to good use.

Riley Thorn and the Dead Guy Next Door by Lucy Score will definitely be making it to my 2024 Favourite Reads list. I enjoyed this book from start to finish, and everything in between. Let's break this all down so I can talk about how much I absolutely adored this book.

Firstly, the plot. This book gives 'cosy mystery' vibes and it had all the elements that made it such– an intriguing mystery, a fun cast of characters, lots of humour and comedy, and a romance to die for (no pun intended!). I enjoyed the murder-mystery plot because it genuinely did not go the way I expected it to go. Dicky's murder was mainly a starting point to the overarching plot

Summary: A nice, normal life. Is that too much to ask? For Riley Thorn, it is. Divorced. Broke. Living with a pack of elderly roommates. And those hallucinations Riley’s diligently ignoring? Her mom is convinced Riley must be clairvoyant. Just when things seem like they can’t get any worse, a “so hot he should be illegal” private investigator shows up on her doorstep looking for the guy next door…who turns up murdered. Investigator Nick Santiago doesn’t play well with others. He’s a rebel, a black sheep, a man who prefers a buffet of options to being stuck with the same entree every night, if you catch his drift. But when the pretty, possibly psychic Riley lands at the top of

Oh my gosh, you have to read Riley Thorn and the Dead Guy Next Door! It's like Lucy Score took a quirky, hilarious rollercoaster and turned it into a book. Seriously, if you need a fun, light-hearted read to break up your heavier books, this is it. Riley, a psychic who just wants to be 'normal,' and Nick, a bad-boy private investigator, have this incredible chemistry from their first meeting. And their banter? Perfection!

Yes, it starts a little slow, but trust me, once it gets going, it's impossible to put down. There are so many wild, lovable characters—from Riley's 'relatives' at her crazy living situation to the motley crew of supporting characters. Each one adds something special to the story, and somehow, Lucy Score keeps all these plates spinning beautifully.

The romance between Riley and Nick is both steamy and sweet, and you’ll be rooting for them as they stumble through chaos, danger, and a lot of hilarious moments. The second half really picks up the pace, and by the end, you’ll be grinning like a fool. If this turns into a series, I'm 100% in for the ride. Grab this book—it's ridiculously entertaining, and I promise yo
