K000152956: BIG-IP strategic update: Modernizing BIG-IP TMOS and discontinuing BIG-IP Next

F5 launched the BIG-IP Next program to modernize F5’s BIG-IP software and empower customers to adapt to the demands of the evolving application landscape. The program focused on delivering enhanced scalability, simplified operations, and advanced automation capabilities to BIG-IP. Initially, many of the enhancements envisioned for BIG-IP Next were considered unattainable within the monolithic architecture of BIG-IP TMOS. However, recent technological advances—including cutting-edge development tools and innovative third-party software components—have demonstrated that these improvements can now be realized within the existing BIG-IP TMOS codebase.

Extensive customer feedback in recent years also highlighted various challenges associated with the adoption of BIG-IP Next, such as the need for significant solution reintegration and recertification efforts. In response, to minimize disruption for BIG-IP customers and to accelerate delivery of a solution built for the next application era, F5 has made the strategic decision to discontinue development of BIG-IP Next. F5 will instead extend an

Our ongoing research has identified remotely exploitable vulnerabilities in F5’s Next Central Manager that can donate attackers full administrative control of the device, and subsequently enable attackers to create accounts on any F5 assets managed by the Next Central Manager. These attacker-controlled accounts would not be visible from the Next Core Manager itself, enabling ongoing malicious persistence within the environment. At the time of writing, we have not seen any indication that these vulnerabilities have been exploited in the wild.

F5 has issued the following CVEs:

F5 has published fixes for the vulnerabilities in software version 20.2.0 on hand to F5 customers, here, and organizations using the Next Primary Manager are advised to upgrade to the latest version as soon as possible. It is vital to note that we reported 5 vulnerabilities, but only 2 CVEs were assigned, details shadow below.
