ACC Teams in NCAA Tournament 2025 – Which Teams Have Qualified From ACC for March Madness 2025?
The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) is one of the most prestigious conferences in collegiate basketball. Founded in 1953, the ACC is in its 72nd year of competition and has had a total of 15 men’s basketball national championships since 1957.
Over the years, several iconic players have emerged from the conference. From David Thompson to Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan to Dean Smith, the ACC has produced basketball royalty and has claimed multiple titles. Not only this, but at least every three ACC teams enter the NCAA tournament every season since 1980.
Having won three of the last nine NCAA Championships 2015, 2017 and 2019, the ACC has been a synonym for excellence in college basketball.
Having said that, let us have a look at how many teams made it to the NCAA tournament in the 2025 season.
Total ACC Teams in March Madness 2025
A total of four out of 18 ACC teams have made it to the March Madness 2025. Though it is the smallest percentage of conference teams in the field ever since the tournament expanded four decades ago.

Having grown up in the ACC and eventually having covered a number of ACC basketball tournaments, I confess that today’s announcement coming out of Charlotte concerning the next five years warmed my heart.
Commissioner Jim Phillips announced that the men’s ACC Basketball Tournament, the granddaddy of them all, will be held in either Greensboro or Charlotte from 2025 to 2029, five years of bliss as far as I’m concerned. For my money, that’s where the tournament belongs, particularly in Greensboro, which has hosted the event the most in its history.
The tournament means something in those two cities. There’s a buzz in the air for tournament week, even more so in Greensboro as opposed to Charlotte, which has turned more into a professional sports city. In Greensboro, the ACC Tournament is THE EVENT, an event that has created so much of this conference’s basketball history.
I’ve covered the ACC Tournament for decades, everywhere from Greensboro and Charlotte to Brooklyn, Atlanta, Washington, D.C., and Tampa of all places, where palm tree-lined streets and gia

The ACC expanded from 15 to 18 with the additions of California and Stanford from the Pac-12 and SMU from the American Athletic. However, the conference tournament field stayed put at 15, confounding many. This decision (and the one the Big Ten made to only go up to 15 from 14) was made for competitive balance purposes to match how byes are distributed by the 16-team SEC and Big 12.
- In a 16-team conference, it’s easy to ensure the top half of the conference (eight teams) earn at least a bye. All you necessitate to do is impleme
ACC will stay with 15 teams for basketball tournaments next year despite expansion to 18 teams
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Next year’s newly expanded Atlantic Coast Conference won’t feature every team in its men’s and women’s basketball tournaments.
The league announced Wednesday that the ACC will feature the top 15 teams in next year’s tournaments, which will be the first after the league has grown to 18 teams by bringing in California and Stanford from the Pac-12 as well as SMU from the American Athletic Conference. The league will stay with a 20-game conference schedule for the men and an 18-game schedule for the women.
The format of the ACC men’s and women’s tournaments had been in question because the league has long included every team, but going to 18 teams would push them beyond the current five-day event model.
The ACC also has approved a pair of technology measures for the 2024 football season, pending approval from the NCAA Football Rules Committee. That includes the use of coach-to-player helmet devices allowing for one-way communication, as well as providing access to in-game video to league teams to “enhance their ability to make in-game adjustments.”
