Predicting The Next 5 Star Wars Movies (& The First Two Are Certain)

At last, it looks as though the bosses at Lucasfilm have gotten their house in order - meaning we can begin to predict the future of Star Wars. The last few years have been difficult for Lucasfilm, with the studio abandoning its original plans to make a Star Wars movie an annual event.

Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy made an important observation earlier this year when she pointed out that this studio's development pipeline comes under intense scrutiny. "Of course, we’re going to develop lots of different things with an understanding that not everything gets made," she conceded, acknowledging the number of canceled Star Wars movies and TV shows.

But the studio does appear to have figured out how to manage the message, and the future of Star Wars is gradually becoming clear. Lucasfilm's focus is returning to the big screen, and we appear to be moving to a place where we get an annual release again, with another launching production. So here are our predictions for the future of Star Wars.

Is Rian Johnson's Star Wars Trilogy Ever Going To Happen? Here's The Latest From The Knives Out Filmmaker

There are major franchies and then there's Star Wars. With generations growing up on the galaxy far far away (and streaming it with a Disney+ subscription), eyes are always on the upcoming Star Wars movies and TV shows that are on their way. Fans have been wondering for years about Rian Johnson's trilogy of movies, and the filmmaker recently got honest about whether or not we'll ever actually see them.

Johnson's The Last Jedi was a subversive masterpiece in my opinion, which is why I've been hyped to see the Knives Out filmmaker return to the franchise. He's been busy with those whodunnits and Poker Face (which is streaming with a Peacock subscription), so there hasn't been much news about his Star Wars venture. The director spoke to Rolling Stone and got honest about the likelihood of us actually seeing that announced trilogy. In his words:

Nothing really happened with it. We had a great time working together, and they said, 'Let’s keep doing it.' I said, 'Great!' I would kick ideas around with Kathy. The short version is Knives Out happened. I went

Every Upcoming Star Wars Movie and Disney+ Series Through 2027

Nothing says that the future of Star Wars is still alive more than another season of Andor. The Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) prequel series was a success with viewers and critics alike when it premiered in 2022, proving that Lucasfilm still had great ideas outside of the continuing adventures of Baby Grogu. Now, following some questionable franchise misses in the Disney+ TV space, Andor is finally back for season 2.

The return of the hit Diego Luna series coincided with a Star Wars Celebration event in Tokyo, which reignited the dormant cargo ship of in-development Star Wars movies. Though the studio announced several exciting projects in the past that were ultimately kicked to the curb—including a Rian Johnson film trilogy and a potential David Benioff & D.B. Weiss trilogy—some ideas are still set for release in the galaxy far, far away.

A new film directed by Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine) titled Star Wars: Starfighterwill premiere in 2027 starring Ryan Gosling. Plus, Lucasfilm plans to wrap up most of its Disney+ storylines in a movie called The Mandalorian and Grogu with

New 'Star Wars' trilogy set at Lucasfilm with 'Rebels' writer and producer Simon Kinberg

Just when we thought Disney and Lucasfilm had figured out the next not many years of Star Wars movies, another curveball has hit the fandom. Prepare for a brand-new trilogy to be written and produced by Star Wars Rebels and X-Men veteran Simon Kinberg.

Deadline broke the news on Thursday (Nov. 7), stating the recent trio of movies would be considered Episodes X, XI, and XII of the Skywalker Saga, which seemingly was finished with 2019's disappointing The Rise of Skywalker

However, the piece also said that some "insiders" rejected that idea, instead claiming these unused movies will kick off a new saga instead.

With the Skywalker bloodline effectively ended at the close of IX in spite of Rey carrying the name forward, the new trilogy could be both things, sort of: a continuation of the 'main' storyline with legacy characters from the sequels and a new initiate with fresh faces, which is how Star Wars has operated in the past.

The Hollywood Correspondent, meanwhile, stated "the new story is not meant to be a continuation of the Skywalker Saga," but didn't shoot down the possibility

Star Wars Films Planned Up To 2030

It's hard to believe that there was a time when fans thought they wouldn't see any more Star Wars films at all, given the long, dry years of the saga between the release of Return of the Jedi in 1983 and the beginning of the prequel trilogy with Episode I: The Phantom Menace in 1999. Unfortunately, Star Wars creator George Lucas left audiences with a little to be desired with his origins of Darth Vader arc, leaving another 10-year void in the wake of 2005's Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

Times have definitely changed since Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012, and fans' faith in the franchise was instantly restored with not only the announcement of the long-desired Episodes VII, VIII and IX, but the hiring of fan favorite filmmaker J.J. Abrams to kick things off with the first episode, The Force Awakens. After the blockbuster successes of that film and the first anthology film Rogue One (and frenzied anticipation of The Last Jedi and the Untitled Star Wars Anthology Han Solo Film), Disney clearly has the confidence in a long-term commitment to the Star Wars saga, as indicated by a major announcement by the Mouse Ho
