Meteor Shower Calendar 2025-2026
A meteor shower is a celestial event in which a number of meteors are observed to radiate, or originate, from one point in the night sky called Radiant. These meteors are caused by streams of cosmic debris called meteoroids entering Earth's atmosphere at extremely high speeds on parallel trajectories. The Meteor Data Center of the IAU lists over 900 suspected meteor showers of which about 100 are well established.
The meteor showers listed below are the easiest to observe and provide the most activity. Particular attention should be noted to the time and moonlight conditions. All these showers are best seen after midnight. Some are not even visible until after midnight. Showers that peak with the moon’s phase greater than one half illuminated (first quarter to last quarter) will be affected by moonlight and difficult to observe.
While the time each shower is best seen remains much the same year after year, the moonlight conditions change considerably from one year to the next. As we approach the date of each shower's maximum, be sure to consult the latest AMS article about Meteor Showers, which will provide in depth information on each shower

| Sep 11, 20 (CNN) — Many sky-gazers around the world will get the chance to see a dazzling heavenly display this weekend — a total lunar eclipse that could cause the moon to hold on a deep reddish hue. The lunar eclipse will be observable Sunday for those in Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia, according to NASA. As the heat, moon and Earth line up in their orbits, the rock will be cast into a crescent-shaped shadow before being fully blocked from the sun by Earth. At that point, some light from the sun will make it around the edges of Earth. Blue light will be scattered by air molecules while the remaining wavelengths will reflect off the moon making it appear to glow red — what is known as a blood moon. The event will start at 11:28 a.m. ET and end at 4:55 p.m. ET (though the eclipse will not be visible to those in the Eastern time zone). Totality — when the moon is completely covered by Earth’s shadow — will start at 1:30 p.m. ET and last for about an hour and 23 minutes, according to EarthSky. “The beauty of a lunar eclipse is that it’s gradual. For folks that have seen solar eclipses, they happen fairly rapidly. The lunar eclipse is a far more relaxed environment,” said Noah Petro, ch Chicago moon phase today (7th September 2025)Chicago, United-states moon phases September

What is the September full moon called?September's moon is known as The Harvest Moon The "Harvest Moon" is one of the best known names for a full moon. However, don't assume that September's full moon is the actual Harvest Moon: it's a bit more complicated than that. It's not always in September, as the Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the Autumn Equinox (around September... read mo |
