  T-Mobile, Comcast, Inteliquent announce STIR/SHAKEN

  T-Mobile, Comcast and Inteliquent on November 21, 2019 announced that they have completed end-to-end STIR/SHAKEN call verification across three networks. The announcement represents further progress in attaining readiness for caller ID authentication and verification in the battle against unwanted robocalls.

  T-Mobile announced STIR/SHAKEN within their network in January 2019, and T-Mobile and Comcast announced cross-network STIR/SHAKEN in April 2019.

  About STIR/SHAKEN

  STIR/SHAKEN doesn’t prevent robocalls. It’s a technology that tells you when the caller ID on an incoming call has been authenticated and verified.

  Robocall perpetrators often spoof caller ID to trick people into answering their robocalls. Increasingly these robocalls use neighbor spoofing, where the spoofed caller ID is a number that resembles the called party’s number. Seems like a local call, maybe from a local business.

  With STIR/SHAKEN, spoofed calls would not be verified.
