It's said that the alleged update will arrive sometime around the premiere of the Fallout show's second season, which is coming in December.

Fallout 4's 14.4GB "next gen" update dropped at the end of April, dovetailing neatly with the very well-liked Fallout TV show on Amazon. It promised all sorts of bells and whistles to transport the (nearly decade old, my god) game up to rendezvous to the standards we assume from videogames in 2024.

And then, forgive me, it bombed. Firm. Very little visibly changed, mods went haywire, and the changes that were noticeable were mostly the parts of the game the patch broke. But dread not, because Bethesda has now put out Next Gen Update 2, featuring "fixes and improvements to address some of the feedback you provided us with on the previous update."

But, skillfully, that's about all the excellent news I have for you. For the most part, the community has responded to the patch with an emphatic shrug: Most of the problems that were introduced by the first next-gen patch are still hanging around, with only relatively trivial tweaks and changes for those of us playing on PC (tellingly, a hefty chunk of the patch notes specify they only apply to consoles).

Bethesda often is seen as a release now and fix later or never developer. Often do the community fix crucial bugs or performance issue. Fallout 4 was no different, the PC community optimized and fixed most of the bugs over the years. 

Console users will be happy to hear that there is a new next gen upgrade coming and you don't even have to pay for it. The community can't really touch the console versions, therefore they do rely on Bethesda fixing bugs and performance issues. Only time will tell
